Encouraging Creative Discernment
for Seekers and Visionaries

I believe we are each accompanied by a divine presence that goes by many names, like…
- higher power
- wise inner teacher
- spirit of life
- unconditional love
- self
- source
- conscience
- soul
- truth
In my experience, giving attention to this presence reveals a vision not only for one’s individual life but also for the life of one’s communities and for the planet. This vision is no guarantee for the future, but moving toward it leads to purpose and grounding. As a spiritual director and ritual leader, my role is to support you in deepening your relationship with the sacred so you can receive your unique vision, discern your calling, find the resources to follow it, and rest along the way.
What positive alternative future are you being called to encounter?
What seeds are available for you to cultivate this week …
… or even this very moment?
Spiritual Direction
Spiritual direction is companionship for coming to know your own inner truth and vision. A spiritual director facilitates organic dialogue between you and what is sacred to you, as defined by you. Our lives are complicated and challenging, with a sometimes relentless mix of joy and sorrow. In this soup of human experience, spiritual direction supports you to:
- make meaning of your experiences,
- honor your web of relationships,
- know you belong here and now,
- uncover your deepest longings,
- tap into your creative source,
- discern what is yours to do,
- love yourself body and soul,
- live into possibility, and
- rest in reality.
We are here to savor the soup!
My spiritual direction practice centers creativity, collective well-being, and embodiment. During a session, I provide active listening and offer various spiritual practices depending on what arises, including poetry, music, art, movement, witness, lovingkindness and other guided meditation, and silence. It is a space to celebrate, grieve, or simply be present as your story unfolds. Here, you may ask for trustworthy guidance in the language of your own soul. Together, we will listen.
Sacred one,
untamed by the names we give you,
in this precious encounter please name us
so that we may each know who we are,
trust your love for us,
feel our love for you,
hear our piece of the truth,
and follow your call.

Spiritual Direction Options
Individual spiritual direction is a conversation between you and the source of your vision, with my witness and support. I love the image of three chairs to symbolize the experience. You sit in one, I sit in one, and “God” sits in the third. Somebody watching from the outside might see you and me communicating with each other, pausing for moments of stillness and silence. But the most important conversation is between you and whoever sits in the seemingly “empty” chair. I’m present to encourage you to keep going, even when what you hear is mysterious or challenging.
When we gather for group spiritual direction, I believe we are collectively accompanied by a divine presence that we experience and name together. I tend to call it group conscience or shared vision. Opening our hearts to each other clears a path for guidance from this sacred presence, as well as each person’s own higher power. My role in group spiritual direction is to support the people present in finding the visionary dialogue unique to this moment in our intersecting lives.

Note to UUFM members: Though I bring spiritual direction tools into our pastoral work together, I do not offer individual spiritual direction to members of UUFM. However, I can lead group spiritual direction for groups of members as part of our programming. Please reach out to me through regular UUFM channels and we’ll explore possibilities!
